The 66-kilometre vineyard trail links all the famous wine-producing villages of the Valais… and of course passes through Saillon.
There are 4 stages on the vineyard trail. The first links Branson, near Martigny, to the village of Saillon. The second stage runs from the Bains de Saillon to the capital of the Valais, Sion. Leaving Sion, the third stage takes you to Venthône. The fourth stage finishes in Leuk.
Discovering Valais grape varieties
More than 20 grape varieties are grown in Saillon. In the reds, Pinot noir and Gamay reign supreme. Muscat accounts for a quarter of the vineyards. The grape varieties chosen for the Grand Cru are Petite Arvine, Cornalin and Humagne rouge. The famous Farinet vine is located on the heights of Saillon. With just three vines, it is the smallest vineyard in the world.
Don’t hesitate to stop off en route to taste these wines at one of the wine merchants or at the Saillon wine cellar!
