Bird trail

Temporary closure: Due to heavy snowfall and fallen trees on the route, the Sentier des oiseaux is temporarily closed for safety reasons. Safety work will start on Tuesday 22 April 2025. We thank you for your understanding and will keep you informed of the reopening as soon as possible.

Discover the birds of Saillon on this new educational trail. Illustrated panels and captivating anecdotes will accompany you along the way as you learn more about the local species. The two-loop trail is designed to raise awareness of the importance of preserving nature while enjoying a beautiful walk through a landscape that changes with the seasons.

    Good practice

Before you set off on your discovery of the Bird Trail, here are a few tips for respectful and enjoyable birdwatching. By adopting these best practices, you’ll be helping to preserve their habitat and make the most of this unique experience:

    • Stay quiet and listen; you’ll hear the birds before you see them.
    • Keep your dog on a lead.
    • Stay on the marked paths. Trails are not playgrounds.
    • Do not use recordings of birdsong to attract them.
    • Bring binoculars.

This map shows the complete walking itinerary: loop 1, loop 2 and the connecting path. You can also park at the start of the 2 routes if you wish to avoid the connecting path.

    Practical info

    Parking nearby

Park your vehicle in one of the free car parks:

    Getting here by public transport

Take the 311 bus from Martigny CFF, Riddes CFF or Sion CFF stations to the Saillon les Moilles stop. To start the 2nd loop, get off at the La Sarvaz stop. Click here for timetables.

    Follow the signs

The mascot “Pêchou” shows you the way with his wing.

    Take a guided tour

Guided tours are organised with an ornithologist during the spring. Book your place at our ticket office or ask for a personalised guided tour.

    Access for pushchairs

The southern loop is accessible by pushchair, although some sections in the forest are a little narrower.

    Competition

As you walk along the trails, you’ll come across birds with little names. Remember to take a pen or pencil with you to write them down on the brochures available at the start of the two loops. Once you’ve completed your brochure, drop it in the letterbox decorated by the Saillon school classes!
