From the village of Saillon, ascend to an altitude of 1,000 metres to discover the old cipolin marble quarries. The visitor will be fascinated by its history, its importance to world architecture and its natural beauty.
First discovered in 1832, Saillon marble began gaining international renown in 1873 for its cipolin variety, which is veined with green and violet. The Palais Garnier in Paris, the British Museum in London and the US Custom House in New York are just some of the buildings around the world where it can be found.
